چکیده

The superoxide radical anion (O # −d) produced during the catalytic activity of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and cytochrome P-450 has been implicated in the oxidative denitrification of hydroxyguanidines ("C ̄NOH). The reactivity of the radiolytically generated O # −d radical with N-hydroxy--arginine (NHA) is pH dependent and appears to parallel the prototropic equilibrium of the hydroxyguanidino group ("C ̄NOHY"C ̄NO−H+ ; pK ̄ 8). The N-hydroxyguanidino group is more reactive towards O # −d when deprotonated but exhibits negligible reactivity when protonated. Based on a model, the rate constant for the

In Vitro Antioxidant and Free Radical Scavenging Activity of Alstonia scholaris Linn. R.Br.,

The present work is carried out to study the antioxidant potential of ethanolic extract of Alstonia scholaris Linn. ( Apocynaceae ) using various in vitro tests including 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazil (DPPH . ) free radical scavenging, metal ion chelating, hydrogen peroxide scavenging, superoxide anion radical scavenging, and ferric thiocyanate reducing ability.   Ethanolic ex...

Lipid Peroxidation Inhibition, Superoxide Anion and Nitric Oxide Radical Scavenging Properties of Thymus daenensis and Anethum graveolens Essential Oils

Background: Safety and efficacy of the synthetic antioxidants used in the food industry are frequently questioned because such antioxidants are unstable and highly volatile, therefore, interest in finding naturally occurring antioxidants that have the potential to protect human beings from damage induced by oxidative stress has intensified. Objective: Bioactivities of Thymus daenensis and Ane...

-Sesquiterpenoids, 7-hydroxy-3,4-dihydrocadalin and 7-hydroxycadalin, and flavonoids, quercetin, kaempferol and their glycosides, isolated from Heterotheca inuloides (Asteraceae), a Mexican medicinal plant known as "arnica", were evaluated as antioxidants. These compounds showed potent scavenging activity on diphenyl-p-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical. Microsomal lipid peroxidation induced by Fe(I...

4-Hydroxy-2-nonenal increases superoxide anion radical in endothelial cells via stimulated GTP cyclohydrolase proteasomal degradation.

OBJECTIVE 4-Hydroxy-2-nonenal (4-HNE) is an abundant electrophilic lipid that mediates oxidative stress in endothelium by mechanisms that remain controversial. This study examines the effects of 4-HNE on nitric oxide (NO) and superoxide levels in bovine aorta endothelial cells (BAECs). METHODS AND RESULTS Exposure of BAECs to 4-HNE caused a dose-dependent inhibition of NO that correlated with...

Oral administration of L-arginine in patients with angina or following myocardial infarction may be protective by increasing plasma superoxide dismutase and total thiols with reduction in serum cholesterol and xanthine oxidase

Administration of L-arginine has been shown to control ischemic injury by producing nitric oxide which dilates the vessels and thus maintains proper blood flow to the myocardium. In the present study attempt has been made to determine whether oral administration of L-arginine has any effect on oxidant/ antioxidant homeostasis in ischemic myocardial patients [represented by the patients of acute...
